Lost Masterpiece: Karl Brown's "Stark Love"

The new cut of Lost Masterpiece, including the SoApIFF festival footage is now complete. John White and I are still tweaking but we are close to having a release version ready.

British film historian and Academy Award winner, Kevin Brownlow, recently gave us a great endorsement after viewing a preview copy of the film.

Since 2008 Poppie has been working with film historian Dr. John White to produce a long form documentary about Paramount's lost 1927 masterpiece, Stark Love. Shot on location in North Carolina in the mid-1920's using local residents as actors, the film is considered one of the most authentic docu-dramas on Appalachian mountain life and culture. Lost Masterpiece previewed to great acclaim at the opening night of the 2009 Southern Appalachian International Film Festival.

Please visit our Lost Masterpiece page for more information, production notes and a quote from Kevin Brownlow.

Tonky

Geden Baxter is a stranger in a strange land - or perhaps he'd prefer to be rather than thrust into the bosom of his long lost and largely dysfunctional Southern family. A mysterious phone call from his Uncle's attorney in Georgia sends the Los Angeles screenwriter across country in search of his roots in the Deep South. Geden gets both more and less than he bargained for, and comes away with more than a few surprises.

Please visit our Tonky page to see the short, for cast & crew information and production notes.

Tonky was an Official Selection of the 2009 Wift/a Shorts festival.

Paranormal Estate

Produced by Poppie Productions for Sketchworks, this doubled-barrelled parody of TV ghost hunters Paranormal State and Food Network's Paula Dean played to great acclaim at the Decatur, Georgia comedy club in 2009.
